Kansas City Seminar ’09
June 14th, 2009WHEW!!! I totally made it. My feet are SCREAMING at me, but I did it. Another long seminar successfully completed. I had the wonderful opportunity to teach with Yuka Sato and Karen Courtland Kelly. This year for whatever reason seemed long, but not as intense. It was great to see a lot of the skaters from last year and notice their improvements. I also happen to notice some things (not a lot!) they obviously hadn’t focused on, and was more than happy to remind them about it!
So I first started packing for this seminar and the summer for Sun Valley. I packed up my new kickin’ trailer with the Harley and started out to Kansas. I started later than I would have liked, so I grabbed a hotel room, and completed 10hrs the next day to arrive at the meet and great at Edge Wise. (picture above…looking fresh I might add). I dropped my car and trailer at Katie Holmes’s house (instructor in Kansas who rocks) and stayed the night there. The next 3 days were pretty intense on the ice with my feet asking me, “seriously dude, what are you doing???” Thankfully, Karen taught an interpretive class the last session on Sunday for all 50 skaters (all levels and ages) which gave me a nice break from last year’s 70 skaters who I had all by myself. Then came the many days of private instruction which was great. Enjoyed putting Lola (my gps) to work for me everyday.
I was invited to one of the club’s annual banquet and scored some sweet grub for a quick speech. Then I was able to hang with my good friend Maryhelen Sbrocca-Lindsay who is from Canada that is now teaching there. Not to mention seeing a kick butt show Quixoticfusion.com. Now off to Sun Valley!
