Kansas Seminar ’08
June 16th, 2008How fun, yet exhausting, was this seminar? It was great! I enjoy working with John and Sylvia. The seminar was well run and was held at three different rinks in the area. Most of the time one of us was off ice with a group while the other two were on. There is some really good skaters there and it was great to see them learn new things so quickly. Above you see a photo of the second night I was there. I even think it hailed a bit, but thank goodness my Harley was at the house of the Katie Holmes (one of the local coaches) which wasn’t hit as hard.
The first day of the seminar went well and all the skaters had a good time (at least I think they did!) The second day was at a rink that we were told rains. Well…I totally didn’t believe them until half way through a private lesson, WOOSH, the condensation building on the ceiling let go and a torrential downpour ensued for a half a second! The second day I had the pleasure of addressing the parents and dispelling a few myths in skating. Then that night we went out to this great barb Q place followed by Dave and Busters. I was give some pretty sad news however. You know that photo booth that you can get into and mix two people to see what their kids will look like? Well, I jump in with the local skate shop owner, and BAM, ugly baby. So John Zimmerman (if you don’t know him, considered one of the best looking dudes in skating) jumped in the booth with me and we produced another UGLY BABY. Yep, that’s right…I’m the common denominator…crap.
Now on the last day we were all pretty tired, and the 8hr ish days on and off ice were catching up. At the very end John and Sylvia had to take off which left me for the last session, on the ice, with EVERY SKATER for 45 minutes!!! Holly smokes! So what do you do with all levels of skaters, and I don’t know, it seemed like there were 40-50 of them out there? So I decided to teach them the beginning of Tappin’ With Bob to see if we could all do it together and “make” the noises at the same time. It was a BLAST! Here is just small section of what these kids did..and they were great! Now off to Sun Valley!!!
