New Years Eve 2013 in Houston!

Houston contacted me for a wonderful NYE bash.  The headliners were going to be KC and the Sunshine band! I packed my gear (Doubtfire and Richard Simmons) which took up a LOT of space!  The hotel that I was staying at had a wonderful view of the whole event.  Two stages and an outdoor arena with public skate was all part of the festivities.  In the front you see the big stage with blue awning.  Just to the left of that is another stage and behind that building there is the outdoor arena.

The rink was awesome!  They even had a small rink that was like 5X5 for little kids to practice on!  I had just sharpened my skates from doing the Santa gig and I had a tough time getting off those edges on the soft outdoor ice!  New Years eve had a forecast of 80% rain the entire time.  I had decided to perform Tappin' With Bob instead of Richard because the rink was a bit tiny to fit all the props and perform it.  7pm rolled around and thankfully the rain was holding off.  As soon as I started the DJ on the main stage started to welcome everyone to the park and proceeded to jams his tunes.  At first I thought the rink was playing two cds at once, and then I realized, "nope, that just everything else over powering the rink's speakers."  So with my selective hearing that I have honed over the years, I proceeded to do my thing.  After the number I walked back to the hotel to eat and get ready for the 9:20pm Doubtfire.  The rain was still looming over head, but the temperature was nice and I was ready to go.

I walked back (you can see how darn close it was) and got dressed to perform.  As soon as I was ready the heavens opened up and down came the rain.  It was over by 10:15pm but by that time the rest of the skating had been called off, and even though the rain was finished, KC decided not to perform.  Meanwhile I'm texting my contact that I'm ready to jump out in the rain and start my routine!  The audience stayed to watch the fireworks and jam to the DJ's tunes.    Everyone who came had a great time and hopefully they will have the event with skating next year!
