Kansas City

Hello, hello, hello! I apologize for not doing a better job in keeping up with this! So, let’s see what has happened lately. I skated in fundraiser for Parker Pennington which turned out really well. After that I was lucky enough to be around to skate at Birmingham in the special olympics show they have every year. All the kids did an opening number, then they stayed out there while I skated Doubtfire. It was cool to bring it back out of the closet and to be able to see the kids up close and personal as I jammed around.

So then I went up north and went fishing. Well, the fish weren’t biting but I noticed the neighbors dong this super cool thing...bow fishing!!! So I ran down to the local store and bought me a used and bow and the fishing arrow/line attachment. HOW COOL!!! You’ll notice in the picture I guess I wasn’t too excited after the fact...they are nasty and you have to bury them cause they are bottom feeders I guess.

From there I have been getting ready for Sun Valley. I am doing 2 new routines this year, and when I get perform them and get ‘em on video, I’ll post them here and explain. So I left for Sun Valley and stopped on the way to Kansas City to teach a seminar with John Zimmermen and his wife Sylvia. Well, I wanted to try these new skates called Adea. They seem interesting and the shop that carries them is in IN on the way there.

So I stop at this guys house, which is like an estate, and he works this internet skate shop out of his pad. So I bought a pair and tried them out this morning. Well, they feel like gym shoes, zero pain around the ankles, so they are light and super comfy, however you sit farther back in the heel and it feels like the bottom is rockier side to side, but harder to rock to the front....so after 5 minutes I quickly pulled them off and threw the blades on the old skates cause I wanted to be able to demonstrate all day. Not sure if I’m going to like them, still need some time to figure it out when I’m in SV.

So I show up around midnight (4hrs to IN, then 3hrs at the skate place, then almost 9hrs to the hotel in KS) and am told oversize parking is 2 blocks away. Uhm, leave my car and trailer with the Harley there? NO WAY. So I get an ok from the night manager to park out front. (the parking is under ground and can’t make the turn) I was told to just get up and move it by 9am. So I go to the room, and yeah....the bed is still in the wall, not pulled down yet. And then I wake up in the middle of the night with a stuffy nose...uhm, yeah, the carpeting near the window and for a 6 feet in is all WET.

So I wake up in the morning, grab all my gear, go downstairs, explain the situation and they are going to give me a new room when I get back tonight. I go outside and this jerk off bell man says I can’t leave my car there till 930am (its 8am now) and demands my keys and says I’ll be charged for a night. I walk back to the front desk, and say, “hello, I’m doing my best to be super calm and not SNAP right now, but let me tell you what just happened.” So my very quiet voice and intense look prompted her to say, “I’ll be right back Mr. Hollander.” Sure enough, leave it there, no charge, sorry for the inconvenience.

The seminar today went well, had a good time, but now I need to sleep!!!! Hope you are all well!

Sincerely,

Dan
