William Lindsay IOA 2012 Selected!!!

Below is my original post on William's application for the IOA.  He re-entered this year and I am proud to announce that he was selected!  Congrats William!!!  I would like to thank everyone who helped to make this video

This video resume is one of my favorites to date. William is a student of mine who is trying to be selected by Canada for a two week camp at the International Olympic Academy in Greece. Part of the submission process was a video showing off your strengths and ability to be social connected on the internet. So for an intense two weeks, William and I wrote back and forth on the internet to select what attributes he needed to demonstrate, and of course how to showcase them. William indeed has a rather large network and has been followed by both newspaper and radio. I knew the outline that I wanted to use:

  • William vocalizes his skill
  • A real life experience demonstrates it
  • Nod and smile to the camera for that cheesy humor laugh

The order and loose script was written, and away we went to Canada to film the full day on Sunday, and two scenes for Monday morning. Oh, and did I forget to mention we secured a scene with the Mayor?!? How cool is that? William has worked for and donated time throughout his life for his community and everyone was eager to support him.

The first scene of the intro needed an Olympic torch. Nobody was able to secure an actual one that was used in the Olympics, so Ashley and I improvised with Sue's materials in the basement. (William's mom). Once the art project was finished, the four of us jumped into the car to to get the footage we needed. Everyone participated by adding great little suggestions here and there. I knew I wanted to fall with the torch in the first scene, and Ashley said, "get a banana peel." I extremely happy with the final shot. I wanted William to summarize everything he did by walking along and picking up objects that drove home each point. So we set up desks in the hallway and paced them out for his speech and walking stride. I glided backwards on my roller blades attempting to keep in a straight line while taping so as not to run into a desk! We only had to do a few takes to get it...good job William! Please follow William on Twitter, add him on Facebook, and follow his youtube account to boost his numbers and show Canada he should be the one selected for the IOA camp!

And finally...the video! Good luck William!
